Central Turkey River Watershed Project

Funded through the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) and administered through the Winneshiek Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), the Central Turkey River Water Quality Project began in 2014 with the goal to reduce nitrogen, phosphorus, and sediment runoff from area fields.

The six targeted watersheds include:

  • Wonder Creek
  • Otter Creek
  • Rogers Creek
  • Bohemian Creek
  • Burr Oak Creek
  • Brockamp Creek

Wonder Creek Initiative

A concentrated effort is being made in the Wonder Creek Watershed to better protect the Community of Spillville’s drinking water supply and improve flood resiliency. Conservation efforts will be prioritized in this watershed with limited time cost-share and incentive payments for wetlands, woodchip bioreactors, saturated buffers, and septic system upgrades.
