Becky Ohrtman received her Bachelor of Science Degree in agriculture from Iowa State University (ISU), with graduate work in Plant Breeding Research. She worked as an agronomist at ISU before entering the field of water quality. She worked as a Watershed Coordinator covering 15 south central Iowa counties before becoming the Eastern Iowa Watershed Basin Coordinator, overseeing 22 watershed projects for the Iowa Dept. of Land Stewardship (IDALS). In 2006 – 2020 she worked for the Iowa Dept. of Natural Resources as the statewide Source Water Protection Program (SWP) coordinator in decreasing contaminant risk to public drinking water supplies. Becky currently operates Iowa Water Quality Consulting, LLC in Decorah, IA and manages the family farm in North Central Iowa. Becky has served as a Winneshiek County SWCD Commissioner since 2022. Becky prioritizes water quality and soil health in her service to the Winneshiek County SWCD.
